Rainford's Roots is an Heritage Lottery Funded community archaeology project run by the Merseyside Archaeological Society.

The Merseyside Archaeological Society
The Society is an independent charity and since its foundation in 1977 has been involved in numerous community and archaeology projects, bringing together those interested in the archaeology and heritage of the Merseyside region. The Society has worked with various groups over the years including the University of Liverpool, National Museums Liverpool, and the National Trust. Recently the Society has been involved with local projects at Speke Hall, The Calderstones, a Neolithic tomb in Liverpool, and they currently have a graveyard survey underway in Childwall in south Liverpool.
The Society organises talks, lectures and courses, and also regularly publish a newsletter. Reports on local archaeological work appear in the Society's journal.

- Undertake an archaeological investigation of Rainford
- Engage with the local community by providing opportunities for volunteering and learning new skills
- Encourage wider participation and learning through a programme of outreach activities
- Present the project and its outputs to a wider audience through exhibitions, digital and printed media
